In 2019 the West Wales 10K Senior Road Race Championships will again be incorporated into the Ammanford 10K on Sunday 14th July.

In addition for the West Wales medals athletes must have one of the following qualifications:

A - Birth; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan)

B - Residence; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.

In 2018, it attracted a total of 275 runners making it the largest turn out so far since it was organised over 20 years ago.

Swansea Harriers' Matthew Rees was the winner 12 months ago in a time of 33 minutes 49 seconds and has been a popular figure since his amazing gesture in helping fellow runner David Wyeth at the Virgin Money Giving London Marathon two years ago.

Commenting on his win in July 2018, Swansea Harrier Rees said: "It was a fantastic race and I was delighted to win. It was a very hot morning and I adjusted my pace goals to take this into account. It was a challenging course and that made it all the more fun. I love racing local events, the organisation was great, the marshals so friendly and I will definitely be back next year."

His club teammate Marc Hobbs followed in runners up spot (34:31) with Port Talbot Harriers' Ben Williams crossing in third (35:03) to make up the top three and win the West Wales Road Running Championship medals in the process.

In 34th overall, Rhodie Jones was the first female athlete back home in 41:09. She was followed over the line by Michelle Cole (3M Gorseinon RR 42:20) and Wendy Price (Carmarthen Harriers 42:41)

Rhian Thomas, President of the Ammanford Lions as well as the rest of the team, who sponsored the event and also presented trophies added: "We were very pleased to sponsor the Ammanford 10K Run once again this year. The event gets bigger every year and this year the turnout has been fantastic."

The introduction of the West Wales Championships certainly attracted good numbers of club athletes in particular to this element and members from Port Talbot Harriers, Swansea Harriers, Llanelli AAC, TROTS, Sarn Helen, Run4All Neath, Neath Harriers, 3M Gorseinon, Sospan Road Runners, Aberdare Valley, Carmarthen Harriers, Les Croupiers and hosts Amman Valley Harriers are expected to return in July.

They'll be plenty of media coverage online for the 10K as well as comprehensive reports being covered for the local press including the South Wales Guardian, Carmarthen Journal, Llanelli Star, Carmarthenshire & Llanelli Herald, South Wales Evening Post and Llanelli Online & 7 Day Sport Websites.
